Every file you add to your site increases its loading time (particularly large files such as mp3, animated gifs, etc.), so it pays to be wise in choosing what media to add to your page.

Some of your site visitors may still have dial-up connections, so keep them in mind. A site that takes one minute to load using broadband will take aeons using dial-up, and that could send prospective customers away from your site. The basic rule is: if it's not necessary, don't do it.

But adding media need not clog up your website's loading time unduly - if the design takes into account what is needed and what isn't, avoids cumbersome and pointless files, and incorporates as much of the decorative into code as possible.
